Chef Krist Bega has spent more than ten years in professional kitchens, and private villa dining is where all of that training pays off most visibly. De Haan is built for it: low-rise, green, and full of the kind of houses that were designed around entertaining.

De Haan is unique on the Belgian coast. It is the one resort that refused the seafront apartment blocks, keeping its Belle Époque villas, its tram station, its tree-lined avenues and the Concessie district almost intact. People come here specifically for the quiet — which makes a restaurant reservation feel like the wrong move.

So Chef Krist comes to the villa instead. Oysters on the terrace before dinner, North Sea fish bought that morning at Ostend or Zeebrugge, a full menu served in the dining room, and a kitchen returned exactly as you found it. Nothing about your evening involves leaving the garden gate.
